About the Project

palliAGED is an online evidence-based guidance and knowledge resource about palliative care in aged care for use by health professionals and the aged care workforce. There is also information for older Australians seeking information about  palliative care. It incorporates and updates the evidence-based information previously contained in the Guidelines for a Palliative Approach in Residential Aged Care (APRAC) and the Guidelines for a Palliative Approach for Aged Care in the Community Setting (COMPAC).

Being online means the new resource will always be available and able to be accessed when the knowledge is needed. It will also make it easy to update guidance as new evidence emerges.

Who is Involved?

This guidance resource has been developed by the CareSearch Project Team who are responsible for the CareSearch website, an online, evidence based palliative care website available at www.caresearch.com.au.

A National Advisory Group comprising key stakeholders from the sector guided its development and its content was informed by the content experts and evidence assessment experts who are members of the Evidence Advisory Group. The project also accessed expertise in evidence retrieval and translation from within the CareSearch project to make sure that the evidence is ready for use. There was  consultation with the aged care and palliative care sectors about the project as well as with other projects working in aged care and palliative care.

Ensuring Quality

The palliAGED Project used robust quality processes to ensure the trustworthiness and relevance of the online resource that was  developed. There were also review processes and usability testing to make sure that this evidence resource is relevant and useful for intended users.
