Finding Evidence

Research evidence can inform us of what works for most people and why. Knowing where and how to find relevant literature makes it much easier to use evidence in your practice.

Evidence can be used in different ways.

  • It can help you build and update your personal knowledge base.
  • It can be used to answer a specific question or to help provide care to a particular client.
  • Evidence may be used to develop policies or approaches for use within your organisation or service.
  • Research evidence can be used in audit and quality improvement processes which aim to assess and improve care.
  • It can be used in guidance resources that support professional practice.
  • Evidence is increasingly being embedded in clinical decision-making systems that guide care provision.

The palliAGED Evidence Centre will help you find the best evidence available on palliative care and end-of-life care in aged care. You can read prepared summaries of the current evidence on 26 major topics. If you wish to look further, there is the Guide to Aged Care Information Sources that brings together reputable ageing and aged care resources, many freely accessible.

palliAGED Search, meanwhile, offers a quick and reliable way to run your own PubMed database search for new (or older) research literature on topics that interest you.
