Evidence-based practice is an approach to care that encourages health care staff to use evidence alongside their knowledge and skills and the needs and preferences of the person receiving the care. Simply, it means using the best available information to help answer clinical questions for the person for whom you are providing care. Research can help us understand what works and why. It can also show if what we do is not helpful or useful.
