This website is hosted by the Flinders University of South Australia trading as 'CareSearch' (hereafter, 'we' or 'us').

Although we have attempted to ensure the information published on the palliAGED website (including all articles, research data, surveys, forums/chat rooms and commentary; hereafter 'Information') is as accurate and complete as possible, such Information may change from time to time. This may be because further research is developed and becomes available. Practice may also vary according to what is available locally (e.g., particular medications) and the experience and expertise of local health professionals. In addition, the palliAGED website is not a health service. This website provides general information only, and health professionals should use their best clinical judgement in the way in which it is used. These pages are intended to complement and not replace the care or advice of your health professionals. Individuals should seek professional medical care and advice as required.

Funding and editorial control

palliAGED is funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care. The funding is provided to enable the provision of evidence based palliative care information and materials to health professionals and health consumers. The funder does not influence editorial policies or quality processes.

Privacy Policy

We support and endorse the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles. The following privacy policies apply to how we handle Personal Information.

PalliAGED is funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care and delivered by Flinders University.

The kinds of Personal Information we collect and hold

Personal Information means information or an opinion about an identified individual, or an individual who is reasonably identifiable, whether the information or opinion is true or not and whether the information or opinion is recorded in a material form or not. By using the PalliAGED website, other services provided by us and/or by contacting us, we may collect and hold Personal Information about you which may include information about your identity (name, date of birth, nationality, qualifications, employment), your contact details (address, telephone number, email, fax number), your image and voice (photograph of you, video of you and/or audio of your voice) and information about how you have used the PalliAGED website and/or other services provided by us.

You may remain anonymous or use a pseudonym, however, this may limit the information and service we are able to provide to you.

How we collect and hold Personal Information

When you use the PalliAGED website, other services provided by us and/or contact us we may collect Personal Information directly from you. For example, when:

  • you visit us or we visit you;
  • you contact us in writing or by telephone, or we contact you in writing or by telephone;
  • we provide a service to you or you provide a service to us;
  • you join our mailing list;
  • you participate in an activity organised by us;
  • you complete a survey organised by us;
  • you register, and attend, an event hosted by us.

We may collect Personal Information by indirect means. For example, when:

  • we find Personal Information in a publicly available source such as a newspaper article, website, social media or conference attendance list;
  • we receive Personnel Information in a referral.

We receive Personal Information in hard copy, digital form (including via our website, email, audio recording, video, photograph), over the telephone or by fax. Personal Information is held in hard copy form on property occupied and/or used by PalliAGED personnel or in secure electronic data storage managed by Flinders University or third party providers. Any digital transfer of Personal Information is secured using encryption.

The purposes for which we collect, hold, use and disclose Personal Information

The purposes for which we collect, hold, use and disclose Personal Information may include:

  • contacting you;
  • providing you with services;
  • providing you with information;
  • developing or improving the quality of our services;
  • internal business purposes;
  • providing you with marketing material;
  • publishing photographs and videos on the PalliAGED website;
  • publishing on the PalliAGED website and/or in printed materials;
  • advertising and marketing services and/or goods you provide;
  • the purpose or purposes for which you provided your Personal Information to us;
  • providing to third parties including:
    • the organisations and individuals we work with to deliver PalliAGED;
    • the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care, the government body which funds PalliAGED, for any purpose it requires;
    • contractors we engage to supply us with goods and services. For example, event planners, IT specialists and lawyers.

Our use of Personal Information may extend beyond the uses outlined above, but will be restricted to purposes that we consider to be related to our functions and activities. We may also be required to disclose Personal Information for any other reason not stated above, when required by operation of law.

How you may access Personal Information we hold about you and seek the correction of this information

How you may complain about a breach of this policy and how we will deal with a complaint

We will acknowledge receipt of your complaint in writing, within five business days, and investigate and respond to you within 30 business days.

Disclosure of Personal Information to overseas recipients

We use digital data-hosting providers located both inside Australia and overseas. Wherever we disclose your Personal Information to recipients overseas we ensure appropriate data handling and security measures are in place.

palliAGED is an information partner of healthdirect an Australian Government initiative. This partnership reflects a shared vision to provide relevant and reliable health and related information to Australian consumers.

Copyright

The Information authored by or on behalf of us and published on the palliAGED website is subject to all our intellectual property rights arising under law and statute, including the Copyright Act 1968. Permission is given for users to view, print and use the Information via the Internet and in electronic form, provided that it is for personal, domestic or genuine research purposes only and for purposes associated with the use of the palliAGED website (for example, a discussion forum). We do not give permission for any use of the Information for commercial purposes.

No Information authored by or on behalf of us may be copied, modified or reproduced in any way without our written permission.

The palliAGED website also publishes information authored by other parties. We have made every effort to contact those authors or others who may have intellectual property rights, including copyright, in material in the literature database published on the palliAGED website. Please contact us if you believe that any copyright material has been used on the palliAGED website without the permission of the author.

Training Materials

On-line training materials can be of value to Australian palliative care practitioners, but such materials are not intended to replace formal education and training. From time to time we may publish such materials on the palliAGED website. However, use of online training materials should not be considered as a qualification in palliative care. No formal accreditation is offered via our website.

We use reasonable endeavours to review the source of the materials and to assess the credibility and qualifications of the author or organisation involved.

General

This website is authorised by Professor Jennifer Tieman, Palliative & Supportive Services, at Flinders University. Editorial control is exercised by the palliAGED National Advisory Group, details of which can be found in the 'About Us' page or by clicking on the link.
